ALL TCRC LOCAL CHAIRS – CPKC WESTERN AND EASTERN REGIONS – BULLETIN 17
Sisters and Brothers:
This bulletin is to further update you regarding the mediation and interest arbitration process. As you are aware, on October 9, 2024, Arbitrator William Kaplan was appointed to resolve the outstanding disputes with respect to collective bargaining. A case management hearing was held on October 25, 2024, to discuss the process of mediation and arbitration and dates to meet with the arbitrator.
Dates have been set for the parties to meet with Arbitration Kaplan in Calgary February 5, 6, & 7, 2025. Subsequent dates have been set for Toronto on April 7, 8, & 9, 2025. May 10 & 11, 2025 have been reserved as possible continuation dates, if necessary, with a location to be determined.
Subsequent to these dates being set, the Company sent a written appeal to the Minister of Labour, Steven MacKinnon, requesting that he intervene and appoint a different arbitrator. The Minister responded today, denying the request.
Your bargaining committee is in the process of preparing our list of demands for presentation to the arbitrator, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to arguing for a fair and favourable settlement that addresses the members’ demands.
Please be aware that Brother Joe Bishop has been elected to the position of General Chairman LE East and will continue in that roll on a permanent basis.
